From India to the USA: Chasing a Filmmaking Dream
Deciding to leave home and move across the world isn’t easy. But for me, coming from India to the USA to pursue filmmaking was more than just a career choice—it was about following a passion and pushing myself to new creative heights.
Why the USA?
India has a rich film culture, from Bollywood to regional cinema, but I was drawn to the storytelling techniques, technical advancements, and industry exposure that the USA offers. Hollywood has long been the epicenter of global filmmaking, and learning from professionals in this space meant gaining insights that could refine my craft in ways I wouldn’t find anywhere else.
The Challenges of Moving Abroad
Leaving behind family, friends, and a familiar environment was difficult. Adjusting to a new culture, different ways of working, and the competitive nature of the industry required resilience. However, each challenge pushed me to grow—not just as an editor but as a storyteller who could adapt to different perspectives and techniques.
How It Changed My Approach to Filmmaking
Studying and working in the USA exposed me to new ways of thinking about storytelling. I learned the importance of pacing, structure, and emotional beats in a way that felt different from what I had experienced back home. Collaborating with diverse filmmakers also broadened my understanding of visual storytelling across cultures.
Moving to the USA was one of the biggest and most rewarding decisions I’ve made in my filmmaking journey. It wasn’t just about learning the technical aspects—it was about immersing myself in a world that constantly pushes creative boundaries.
